Application

The RADPOL PIPES sleeve is a heat-shrinkable sleeve made of radiation-crosslinked high-density polyethylene (HDPE), designed to restore the outer protective jacket at the joints between pre-insulated pipe sections in district heating and cooling networks. The sleeve’s strong retraction force on the jacket and its shape memory effect—properties inherent to radiation-crosslinked polyethylene—enable the creation of a durable, flexible, and leak-tight seal that withstands temperatures ranging from -55°C to +125°C.

The radiation-cured sleeve closely matches the profile of the pre-insulated pipe’s outer jacket, which reduces friction in the ground and extends the joint’s service life; it also offers high resistance to stress corrosion. Its high shrinkage force and mechanical resistance to thermal expansion stresses in the network, as well as its resistance to aging, ensure the longevity of the district heating network and the integrity of the pre-insulated pipe joints.

During manufacturing, only the areas around the injection ports are protected from cross-linking; the rest of the sleeve is fully cross-linked. The non-cross-linked areas retain the properties of the original HDPE, which allows for the technological fusion of the end caps. This unique combination—uncrosslinked material (cap fusion) and crosslinked material (high shrinkage, excellent shape retention, increased mechanical strength)—coupled with a seal using hot-melt adhesive and/or sealant—makes it one of the most innovative, easy-to-install, and reliable connection solutions on the pre-insulated pipe market. This solution is registered and protected by patent PAT. 205918.

The standard straight coupling offered by RADPOL PIPES is part of the DPW series; couplings from other series, as well as "curved" (D) couplings, are available upon request.

Features

Properties and Advantages of Radiation-Cured Sleeves

– Shape memory effect and strong retraction force on the bone sheath (HDPE protective sheath).
– Radiation-crosslinked HDPE exhibits high resistance to torch flame temperatures and localized overheating during installation.
– Uncross-linked zone designed for fusing the end cap, ensuring 100% watertightness.
– Sealed with hot-melt adhesive and/or butyl rubber compound (sealant), preventing moisture penetration.
– No additional heat-shrink collars are required at the ends of the joint, nor is additional protection of the casting ports needed after the plug has fused.
– Chamfers at the ends of the sleeve reduce friction in the ground and prevent the edges from curling up.
– Resistance to harsh chemicals and UV radiation.
– Few components, reducing installation time and the overall cost of the joint (no heat-shrink collar required).
