Undergrounding of power lines
Elydan Group RYB, the French polyethylene network solution specialists, supplied 180 km of HDPE conduit* as part of the project to create an underground high voltage link between the communes of Bazas and La Réole. This exceptionally large project was launched in 2016 with the aim of improving electricity supply security in the South Gironde region.
We were delighted that a French factory was chosen for this power line undergrounding work. The project called for a large production capacity and first-class logistical organisation, and enabled us to create employment jobs by taking on two new members of staff.
An exceptional project calling for expertise and know-how
As part of their consultancy, ETPM and Serpollet, the public works companies which carried out the construction work, chose the RYB Group to supply the HDPE piping. Several differentiating factors came into play:

RYB supplied Flex-Energy HDPE conduit meeting the new NF114 group 5 quality mark that guarantees the quality of the raw materials, the dimensional properties of the product and the quality controls carried out prior to delivery to the construction site.
Although we had serious constraints imposed upon during the project, the RYB Group was always able to meet their delivery schedules. We benefited from the excellent communication between our two companies which allowed us to optimise the roll-out and civil engineering phases of the project.
One of the largest power line undergrounding projects in France in 2016
The entire high voltage power line undergrounding project between the communes of Bazas and La Réole was carried out beneath the surface.
The 180 km of sleeves and 35 km of trench represented a sizeable undertaking for RYB and was one of the largest power line projects carried out in France in 2016.RYB manufactured and supplied the following:
▪ 110 kilometres of DN160 HDPE Flex-Energy conduit (black HDPE pipe with red stripes designed to protect power lines)
▪ 30 kilometres of DN110 HDPE Flex-Energy conduit (black HDPE pipe with red stripes designed to protect power lines)
▪ 40 kilometres of DN50 HDPE Flex-Com conduit (black HDPE pipe with green stripes designed to protect optical fibre)
As we were very keen to keep to our environmental approach when manufacturing the conduit and transporting it, we delivered it on drums that allowed us to transport 480 linear metres at once, thus reducing our carbon footprint.
