RYB Composites was involved in the construction of one of the largest airports in the world

RYB Composites, a subsidiary of the Elydan Group specialising in porous geocomposite materials, supplied the vertical drains for construction of the New International Airport for Mexico City (NAICM). The drains were manufactured in the Loiret region (45) and were delivered during 2017; they were used to consolidate the ground beneath 3 runways as part of the first phase of the project.

The New International Airport for Mexico City in figures:

  • 10 billion Euro budget
  • 4,431 hectares
  • 6 parallel runways
  • 210 points of contact
  • 125 million passengers per year

The first phase of the work due to be completed in 2020 will double the passenger transit capacity to 68 million passengers per year. The second phase, which is due for completion in 2035, will make the New International Airport for Mexico City one of the largest in the world.

Our capacity for fast delivery and the excellent technical properties of the products we manufacture in Sully-sur-Loire were the determining factors in the choice made by our customer who is involved in the construction of the New International Airport for Mexico City, one of the biggest infrastructure projects to date in the country and one of the largest in the world for this type of solution in terms of volume

Vertical drains delivered in 2017

The vertical drains allowed the airport grounds which are located over an old lake to be built on by evacuating the water and consolidating the ground to prevent future settling. Once stabilised in this way, the ground was ready for the first phase of the project involving the construction of the first two airport runways.

Made in France quality

The RYB Composites drains were manufactured in their Sully-sur-Loire factory in the Loiret region (45) and were installed at depths ranging from 15 to 40 metres.

Thanks to their rigidity and resistance to crushing, they deliver high drainage rates during the soil compression phase and considerable savings on installation time.

Solpac vertical drain

Applications RYB Solpac vertical drains are geocomposite drains comprising two complementary elements: a core structure made of cellular HDPE, and a polypropylene geotextile filter envelope.
