Terra Structure is an innovative geothermal pile system that integrates into the structure and is designed to recover heat from the ground. A monopropylene glycol-based coolant recovers the heat energy via the system and concrete structure. The energy is then converted by a heat pump using glycolated water or water on its own to heat or cool the building and produce hot water for sanitation.
A holistic appraisal of the building’s energy needs involving a number of measurements and tests is carried out prior to installation of the Terra Structure piles to ensure they are correctly dimensioned in order to:
– Work out the energy needs of the building.
– Carry out a geohydrological analysis of the ground (type, ground water, ground water speed, etc.).
– Determine the thermal properties of the ground (Thermal Response Test).
