Reinventing Grenoble's Esplanade: an ambitious urban project for a sustainable city

Elydan contributes to the transformation of Grenoble's Esplanade

Elydan is developing strongly internationally, but has not forgotten its roots.
Our teams are proud to support a local project, less than 50 kilometers from our head office in the Grenoble prefecture.

Janoflex is the perfect choice, equipped with sleeves, UV resistance and crush resistance up to 450 Newtons. A wire puller makes cable routing easy, too.

The TOUTENVERT public works company has placed its trust in Elydan for the quality of its products, and also for its responsiveness, with rapid delivery.

Presentation of the Grande Esplanade de Grenoble project

At the gateway to Grenoble, the Grande Esplanade is an emblematic place, a crossroads of life and meetings for the people of Grenoble. Historically, this space has always played a central role, hosting major events such as the Foire des Rameaux, markets, concerts and festive or civic gatherings.

With a surface area of 3 hectares, the Grande Esplanade represents a strategic urban challenge for the city. With climate and ecological issues becoming a priority, the Grenoble metropolis has chosen to rethink this space to make it a model of adaptation to climate change. The redevelopment project aims to transform the esplanade into a modern, ecological and inclusive urban park, combining green spaces, sustainable stormwater management and soft mobility.

Note that the Esplanade used to be a large concrete parking area.
To address mobility issues, the metropolis has set up a P+R Park-and-Ride system a few kilometers away, providing easy access to the city with equivalent journey times during rush hour.

This project is part of the city's broader commitment to rethinking public space in order to improve quality of life for residents, enhance biodiversity in the urban environment, and offer a more pleasant and resilient living environment in the face of environmental challenges. By greening the area, calming traffic and promoting leisure activities, the Grande Esplanade will become a symbol of Grenoble's ecological transition, while preserving its historic identity and its role as a gathering place.

1. The challenges of the redevelopment project

- Adaptation to climate change: greening of the area, soil sealing and stormwater management.
- Heritage enhancement: strengthening the site's identity and highlighting its historic character.
- Creation of an events venue: Encourage leisure activities and gatherings throughout the year.
- Calming the boulevard: Reduce car traffic to create a more pedestrian and cycle-friendly space.
- Renewing neighborhood life: Revitalize public spaces for residents and visitors.
- Soft mobility: Integrate environmentally-friendly modes of transport, with a complementary Park & Ride facility.

2. Features of the future urban park

- Area: A 3-hectare urban park, offering a cool space in the heart of the city.
- Events and leisure: Host to major events such as the Foire des Rameaux and various activities throughout the year.
