Syndicats des Eaux : 10 Reasons to Use PE100 RCD

PE100 RCD is a type of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) used in the manufacture of water transport pipes. Here are just some of the advantages of using PE100 RCD pipes.

What is the PE100 RCD?

Combinaison des avantages du PE100-RD et du PE100-RC, le matériau PE100-RCD est un polyéthylène haute densité de dernière génération, fruit de l’innovation continue des résines et des tubes.

It is distinguished from standard PE100 by its improved resistance to chlorinated disinfectants (RD characteristic) and its very high resistance to slow cracking (RC characteristic).
In general, high-density polyethylene for pressure applications has three essential mechanical characteristics:

- Long-term hydrostatic resistance (MRS: Minimal Required Strenght)

- Resistance to rapid cracking (RCP: Rapide Crack Propagation)

- Resistance to slow cracking (SCG: Slow Crack Growth)
Added to which is an essential physico-chemical characteristic:

- Improved resistance to chlorine and chlorine dioxide disinfection

10 technical characteristics of PE100 RCD pipes :

Chemical resistance

PE100 RCD is resistant to many chemicals commonly found in groundwater, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

Corrosion resistance

Unlike metals, PE100 RCD is impervious to corrosion, extending its service life and reducing maintenance costs.

Abrasion resistance

PE100 RCD pipes are generally highly resistant to abrasion, making them suitable for applications where the transport of abrasive materials is commonplace.

Flexibility

PE100 RCD is a flexible material, making it easy to install in a variety of environments and reducing the associated civil engineering costs.

Shock resistance

PE offers good shock and impact resistance, reducing the risk of RCD damage during installation and use.

Durability

PE100 RCD pipes are durable and long-lasting, reducing the need for replacement and contributing to a more sustainable use of resources.

Temperature resistance

The PE100 RCD can operate efficiently over a wide temperature range, making it suitable for a variety of environments, including extreme climates.

Low coefficient of friction

The smooth internal coating of PE100 RCD pipes reduces head loss and improves the hydraulic efficiency of the system.

Lightweight

PE100 RCD pipes are lightweight, making them easy to handle and transport on site.

Resistance to bacterial growth

Due to its non-porous nature, PE100 RCD is not very conducive to bacterial growth, making it an appropriate choice for applications involving the transport of drinking water.

PE100 RCD benefits

Compared with other materials such as cast iron, PE100 RCD stands out for several reasons.

- Time-saving installation

- Reduced environmental impact

- Savings in filler materials

The light weight of PE100 RCD means that the pipes require fewer people to handle them, and especially less lifting equipment. Certain connection techniques, such as the use of electro-welded fittings, save considerable time when laying in trenches.

A customer talks about his decision to use PE100 RCD for an AEP project involving the interconnection of a network between two Syndicats des Eaux.

To secure its drinking water supply, the Syndicat des Eaux de la Région (SER) de Tence, in the Haute-Loire department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, has interconnected its network with that of the Syndicat des Eaux (SE) de Montregard.

The 10 km pipeline for this interconnection was built using Elydan's TEC 1 RCD AEP solution: a pipe combining the best current performances of HDPE resins. Supplied in 17-meter large-diameter bars (DN225) and electro-welded using Plasson sleeves, the TEC 1 RCD AEP solution enabled rapid laying in less than 3 months, with the intrinsic benefits of budget savings and reduced inconvenience for local residents. The speed of installation was further enhanced by the fact that TEC 1 RCD AEP is laid without the need for sand coating or filler materials.

In addition, site waste was collected and processed by Elydan's subsidiary VALORELY, to be recycled into new products.

10 km of pipeline laid in Haute-Loire in less than 3 months!

Speed of execution was a major criterion, and using long flexible pipes with electro-welded fittings was a real advantage," recalls Romain Faurie, Managing Director of Christian Faurie Travaux Publics. We worked in 5 to 10 m long zones, reducing the number of operations in the trench to a minimum to ensure speed and comfort. The pipes were prepared before being laid, and then gradually slid into the trenches.

The trenches, opened by an excavator, took into account the bending radii of the pipes. In agreement with the BET, we also took into account variations in soil types (earthy, friable, with or without rocks...), rural road areas, undergrowth clearance, tree pruning at property boundaries, etc. ", adds Romain Faurie.

" For our part, we had to anticipate a number of administrative constraints. For example, when crossing watercourses, we had to check with the local authorities (DDT) on the timing of the work to preserve the flora and fauna. We also had to obtain the necessary authorizations from private landowners," adds Sylvain Dumas (AB2R).

PE100 RCD Quality

Quality assurance

The Elydan Group's plants are ISO 9001 certified by the independent body LNE (Laboratoire National de Métrologie et d'Essais).
This certificate guarantees that the Elydan Group implements and maintains a quality management system for all the products it manufactures.
The traceability of materials and of the various manufacturing phases makes it possible to identify the source of each pipe's components, the dates and phases of production, and the various checks carried out.

The NF 114 mark

The NF mark is a voluntary certification mark. It attests to the conformity of products to current standards, as well as to additional specifications defined by AFNOR. It differs from 'conformity to standard...', which is based on a simple self-declaration by the manufacturer.
As a holder of the NF 114 mark, Elydan is subject to continuous monitoring of its production by AFNOR, carried out by the LNE external laboratory:

- Factory inspection (minimum of 2 audits per year, including 1 unannounced audit)
- Regular sampling and testing of compliance with brand requirements
- Evaluation system, including withdrawal of the right to use the brand in the event of non-compliance.

Samples are also taken from products on the market to ensure their conformity.

Unlike a pipe that only complies with the NF EN 12 201 standard, a NF114-certified pipe is made from 100% virgin material, ensuring the pipe's durability and reliability.
A hot-engraved marking on the pipe, including international ISO codes, enables traceability of the manufacturer and the raw material.
